We have been having major problems with our ISP, which is RCN.

Just listened to my roomate be told by them that we have a virus and that's why our net connection is going down twenty times a day, and it couldn't possibly be a problem on their end. "There is no virus! I'm running Linux! I'm a trained professional!" says he. But they insist, it can't be that we need a new modem or that there's a network problem.

So. Does anybody have ComCast and want to tell me about it? Right now we have a package through RCN - local phone, cable tv, and cablemodem for around $100 a month. We'd want to switch to something comparable, if we can improve our reliability.

We have Comcast for TV and cable-modem internet access and have found it fast and reliable -- much, much, much better than the Verizon DSL we had previously. We're in the suburbs, though, so ymmv and all that.

I don't use phone or TV, and I pirate internet, but have you asked Ro about it?

Umm... no, should I? (What's the connection?)

He works for Comcast, and was doing basic customer service long enough to know the answers.

In fact he now does the tech support for their broadband line of business.
I'm sure he'd be glad to answer anything you'd want to know about Comcast.

we have Comcast for cable tv & cablemodem. i had the phone as well when i shared space with MRF, and i know we paid under $100 total. i've had a couple of problems where they tried to say it was my modem (i know it's the computer i'm using), but things have always been sorted out when i call them.
it's fast, rarely ever has down time.

We have RCN and were having major problems. They kept telling us to power-cycle our modem, which worked for about 5-10 minutes, then the internet connection would go out again. THey insisted that it was our issue....luckily, we too have some linux-super-geeks who were able to figure out more about what was going on...

On our fourth phone call to them (fifth?) they finally asked us what make our modem was. Oh, turns out those have a known problem and flake out, and they'll replace it for free. Hmph. So you might want to explore that...

I have been using comcast for data and tv for years out here and have had few serious problems with them. The only time I ran into trouble with them was when my cable modem was flaky and having similar issues to the ones you describe with yours but at the time it only went wonky after it rained. That time we moved shortly after the problem started happening so I turned in the modem and got a new one for the new account.

I don't use comcast for phone, we don't have a land line just cell phones.

I have Comcast for basic cable and modem for only $70 a month. I don't have a landline phone, so I can't help you there.

We have Comcast for cablemodem and their basic cable package (which we don't use but it's actually cheaper than just having cablemodem) and it runs about $56 a month. The uptime is as close to perfect as I could possibly want, and for me that's the key thing. Phone support has been a very mixed bag, but very few calls have been needed.

Anything!
Just fix it :) I'll pay up to $10 extra/month to get working internet!
