Actually, the question is about bored cats, but I wanted it to scan along with "Drunken Sailor."

Our more active cat is bored. Extremely bored. He no longer wants to play with his favorite toy. When he is bored, he acts out. He bites us, attacks his brother, etc.

We got him some new toys, and they've limited the waves of naughtiness... but not done much else. We can't let him outside because we live too close to Mass Ave.

What do YOU do when your cats are bored?

We haven't done catnip - there was a concern that I was allergic to it. But I'm okay with mint, so it's probably all right...

Catnip party!

(or what C said - I toss 'em outside, but I live in an area where that can be done fairly safely.)

I will be making the sisal and carpet cat city in the next week or two so that should help.

You could hire [livejournal.com profile] teratomarty to chase Pretzel.

I've mostly had indoor/outdoor cats so we made them go outside. You could also try wrestling him into a harness, putting a leash on him and sitting outside in the backyard with him.

With apologies for addressing your meter problem, rather than the feline one -

How about "What do you do with a blase kitty?"

:)

You're right! But I think "jaded" might be better.

Theo (that's [livejournal.com profile] freakydimension's cat has a cat tree. When he seems bored I'll chase him around the room and then up the cat tree. That never fails to rile him up.

I don't know about the biting though, because one of the ways we play with Theo is to wrestle his face around and let him try to bite us.

I see that it was mentioned above, and I do think that having a cat tree will help with the booooored kitty!

And yeah, most cats love catnip. It makes Theo staggery and stoned, but makes my mom's cat jump straight up into the air! :)

I definitely second chasing the cat around the house, if he's in the mood for it. Our big orange cat, Minnie, loves this. She also occasionally likes to be picked up and tossed onto the bed or the couch. Seriously. She doesn't run away afterwards; she comes right back for another round. Eventually she gets worked up enough that when she lands, she'll dash away and skid on the floor around corners. Fun for the whole family.

Novel places to explore within the apartment are good too. Tops of refrigerators, above the kitchen cabinets, high closet shelves, rolling up a rug to create a tunnel of mystery. Also, placing the cat inside a cardboard box.

Our black cat, Zoey, also finds it just entrancing when I sweep the floor.

I tried chasing the cat and it worked! He ran around and then ran under the couch. He seemed to like it.

This cat is also very into water. He loves the pet fountain we got him, loves to watch us take showers, refill the Brita pitcher... anything.

As distasteful as it may be for so many reasons, my parents have a DVD of birds and rodents and stuff with a soundtrack of birds and stuff. The cats were entraced for hours and kept trying to find the right place to be to be out of sight but able to pounce the screen.

well...

we got a kitten. ::Grins:: the Nny kitten keeps Squee busy most of the time, leaving Meep to sleep soundly... at least, usually.
but other than that....
we recently made a foil ball for them to play with, and they LOOOVE it. I'm pretty sure the crinkly sound makes them happy. catnip is good, too, and luckily there's 3 of us, here to play with them. we like to rile them up, snuggle them til they go beserk, and then throw a toy so they chase it. then, it's rampaging for a while. we also let them have boxes, and sometimes, tissue paper.

I've been looking for the lyrics of that song a looooong time, ever since I heard about it years ago. I was told it was on a UK childrens program.

I know it's to the tune of "What do you do with a drunken sailor." What are the words?
From: [identity profile] lady-anemone.livejournal.com
I have no idea. I just made up the title - I didn't know it was a real song. Sorry I can't be of more help.
