job going away

So, had a meeting with the HR department. They are going to "terminate me without cause" on January 17th.

I knew this was going to happen. It sucks that they're doing this, but I feel good about knowing a date.

Since now it's official, and there's no real chance I'll be here for a longer period of time, I finally told my boss that I had been planning to leave before this all started happening. (In order to become a doula, wheeee!) He said it made him feel better. I'm glad. He's a good guy and has given me a lot of support, and this decision was out of his hands.

I suspect I'm going to be somewhat bored that week, especially Wednesday, which would have been my next day for working. Anybody want to get together during the day and do something fun? Bonnie?

What's a doula?

A doula is someone who gives emotional support to women during childbirth. I decided I wanted to do it almost a year ago. :) My hope is to eventually become a midwife.

I'm amazed you've stood it this long; my Virgo nature would never have survived such a long period of uncertainty/unresolvedness. So glad things are squared away for you now, and you can move forward.

*nod* It was actually pretty weird. I'm pretty invested in knowing what's going on and things being defined. But, I've been learning to live with uncertainty. :) I actually feel kind of excited, since work has been taking a lot of my energy, and now I'll get to use it for other things.

Actually, I think the weirder part is going to be spending the next week and a half at my job, trying to act like nothing is going on. Cleaning out my stuff on the last day will feel pretty natural, I think.

It's a little complicated, but essentially, yes.

"Termination without cause" seems to be corporate speak for "We're firing you, but we don't want you, or anyone else, to think it's your fault." Which is good.

Sorry to hear that your position is being disolved, but glad to hear that you were already planning on another career. Being on unemployment may offer some oppotunities to continue your education, and the Boston area does seem to have good mid-wife programs available.
