I finally read Diplomatic Immunity, the last (or at least, latest) book in the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold. I liked it okay, but nowhere near as much as I did A Civil Campaign, which was completely hilarious.

I also read the first compilation of Frank Miller's Sin City graphic novels, The Hard Goodbye. I loved it. And now I understand why, upon seeing the movie, [livejournal.com profile] catskillz exclaimed, "It looks just like the comic book!! How did they do that??" Yes, it was very gory and somewhat sexist. Not everyone would like it. But I liked it.

Finally, this morning I read Trickster, by Steven Harper. Those books are nice fluffy crack. Each one contains a strong body of knowledge on something unusual - Australian aboriginal belief, serial killers, cults. Which is cool, because it keeps them from getting boring. Also, there are positive queer characters, and it's kind of kinky. This one especially. And it got away from the telepathy aspect somewhat - it was more of a thriller than sci fi.
I'm realizing that I need more books like this - since I've been working so hard, I need light reading material. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not usually into romance novels, since generally I want to grab the female characters by the shoulders and shake them until their teeth rattle, but otherwise, anything goes.

A Civil Campaign was very much a love story, Diplomatic Immunity... not so much. ACC is one of my faves next to Warrior's Apprentice...

i LOVE the Sin City comics. i went to see the movie with J-Rad and afterwards came out asking "what about that was misogynist?"
he looked at me and started laughing, because i was honestly confused. i guess i figure if Gail didn't like S/m she wouldn't have a collection of handcuffs and would've blown that guy's brains out. maybe that's just me. :)
i thought it was really hot too.
