Last night, my sweet baby cat had to be put to sleep. He got very sick very quickly - he couldn't pick his head up. It was clear that he was no longer aware of anything and his energy had moved on.
Charlie was not short for Charles, as most people assumed, but rather Charlemagne, since he was such a dignified gentleman cat. Despite the occaisional begging for people-food, he was a very good boy. He would love on anyone who would let him - I used to say he was a Buddhist kitty, because he was motivated by love for all beings. He always seemed to know when someone was unhappy, and would lie on your chest and radiate serenity in all directions if you were sick or upset.
Charlie, I hope where you are now, there are all of your favorite things - sunlight, fat and lazy mice, windows to look out of, and warm laps to sit in. If we all get just what we want in the Summerland, I hope you're chasing a pork-and-guacamole burrito on little stubby legs right now. We'll miss you.

Date: 2006-05-23 12:43 pm (UTC)He was very sweet natured too.
I'm sorry to hear of Charlie's passing.
It sounds like he was much loved and, up until this unfortunate sudden illness, lived a contented life. The image of a cute grey stubby legged cat chasing burittos in the Summerlands is absolutely precious. Hey, Charlie, if you meet a cat about your shade of grey but with white tabby stripes, tufted feet, a squirel-like tail, and pale green eyes? That's Mr. Zoe. He's good company and maybe you can be afterlife buddies.

But he's in kitty heaven with all the catnip there is. Betcha he's having a great time.

Date: 2006-05-30 01:17 pm (UTC)Pretzel will miss him, to be sure. We'll need to get another cat sooner than I would probably most want, so he won't be lonely.
