I am trying to back up the files on my desktop before we re-install Windows on it.

The CD drive is not working. So I have been uploading everything to my Gmail account and then downloading it on my laptop.

Is there a better way to do this? Like with all the files at once, instead of only 10 mb at a time?

If so, I'd love to know.

I'm assuming that you do not want to share a folder out and copy over the local network?

That would be fine. How would I do it?

go to "My computer" right click on the C drive and select "Sharing and Security"

Press the "New Share" button on the "Sharing" Tab (it should already be selected. Give the share a name and press ok a bunch of times to get rid of all of the dialogs. The C drive should be shared read only to anyone on the local network.

This worked only enough to screw things up.

I didn't successfully share files, but I created a network bridge, and now I can't access the Internet.

I have an external hard drive I could bring on Tuesday if it's not gorgeous. That would be much quicker.
