oh, the many viruses

So far, the total number of viruses/infected files/whatever found and deleted on my computer is eleven.



The wonder isn't that it was having problems. The wonder is that it was working at all. I noticed a speedup even after the first four viruses were found, by Spybot. I'm currently installing the free trial of a third virus scan product. Obviously, this is the time to invest in antivirus software. Thankfully, it seems that I caught it before it was too late. *sigh*

Anyway, I appreciate everybody's help. And I think I'm going to uninstall weatherbug in favor of creating a link to some weather website that I can check regularly. I suspect mrpet was right in his assessment that some of this unpleasantness comes from them.



In other computer health news, we have established that the battery on my laptop does charge, and will hold a charge for several hours once unplugged. So things are looking good.

Good luck with the weatherbug thing. From what I know, there is so much spyware on that thing and it writes itself into so many different places, that you can virtually wipe your disk and it will still be there. Anyway, i dont know if you've downloaded Adaware yet, but it's one of the better softwares for detection of spyware/adware. www.lavasoft.de I use it religiously. It complements Spybot quite well--they both catch what the other missed. "hugs"

Yup, Adaware was the first thing I tried. It didn't find any of the eleven that were later detected by Spybot and McAfee.

I can't recommend heartily enough Sygate personal firewall. It's free. And it rocks.
