last night

Last night I had a fabulous NYE with tsuj. We went out dancing at a friendly party in the basement of a Chinese restaurant. And at one point during the night, I thought, "What is this feeling? It's sort of like being tipsy, but better, and anyway I haven't had anything to drink."

It took me until the morning to figure it out. It was happiness.

So, friends far and near, old loves and new flames, even if we haven't spoken in a while or if things didn't end quite right, here is what I wish for you - that in the coming year, you feel all of the good feelings you are accustomed to, and that you remember and re-experience good feelings that you'd lost the sense of. And maybe, just maybe, you can find some feelings that are as new to you as they are sweet.

I'm glad for you. I still remember the first time I felt happiness after young childhood; I was twenty, and sitting around with friends having an interesting conversation, and I too was baffled by the strange sensation I was having. It took about two hours of introspection to figure out that this was called "happiness."

It does exist in the world. It really does.
