Yesterday, this adorable, curious cat had no home.



Apparently, several people had not wanted her because she was a black cat. (Oh no, not the spooky! Fools.)

Now she is running around my room like she owns the place. She is interested in everything, but especially in the cat on the other side of the door, and playing. Playing playing playing! My bed, chair, and windowsill make a great obstacle course.

The picture is the one the shelter was using. More will be forthcoming. We got her through the Kitty Connection Inc, and they were super friendly and helpful without being pushy. They have a special adoption event tomorrow, with many cats and kittens and some dogs. If you need a new friend in your life I suggest checking them out.

Mr Stripey is doing very well with the new addition to the household. They enjoyed meeting each other. We are keeping them separated and giving him extra attention for a week before we introduce them again. They are playing through the door at this very moment - curious paws! She likes him even better than her catnip mouse.

She doesn't have a name yet. We try to let our cats pick their own names. I have tried out Gigi and Rune with her but she didn't like them. I wouldn't want to give her a cliched black-cat name and mrpet and I are strongly opposed to naming pets after deities, but maybe something a little witchy? If she likes it? Any suggestions from the floor?

ETA: I found a list of names for black cats! Neat that someone put that together. Find it behind the cut. Some of them are dumb or cliched but some are interesting or funny. Snowball!

I own a black longhair w/ my GF, who named her Lucyfur when she got her in 2002.

Yeah, Jinx is another black cat name that I think is a little cliched.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wouldn't name her Asphodel, because of the kingdom so nearby us, but I will try the others.

I miss the black cat we had in Illinois, Muppet (so-called because during his post-kitten growth spurt, he had spindly muppet-like legs :D). He was unnamed for a good month or so, actually, until that came to me and my ex. :)

How about a Harry Potter-inspired name? Perhaps Bellatrix or Hermione? From the list itself, my fave is "Black Orchid" -- or maybe just "Orchid."

Finally, you guys could go for something really bizarre, like "Sarah Palin." Hahahahahaha!

I kind of like the sound of "Blackjack Hecate". I'm sure that's not what you meant when you typed those on the same line, but it's delightful. If it's not your kitten's name, it would make a great band name.

I didn't type the names at all, actually - I copied them from a website, and the formatting lost a lot in translation. Blackjack would be a good name, though.

We try not to name our pets after deities, so Hecate and Lilith would both be out, unfortunately.

Hi, Mama Bear. I think your still nameless cat is really a cutie. I did some research on cat names. And I think I found a good one for Ms. Cutie. Pawsome. It's Pagan, which I thought you'd like, and you describe that she and Pretzel like playing through the door with curious paws. *smiles* I think it's a really cute name, but I'll see if I can find more.
