I dreamed that I was working at a library. G, a guy I used to work with, came by to see me. He smiled and he looked so sweet and appealing. He kissed me and it felt amazing. I told him to take me to dinner that night and he said okay.
Then I went back to the library, where I was slicing sausage.

Date: 2009-05-12 11:47 am (UTC)I thought writing here might be easier, since I could catch up on a few of your doings this way, though you certainly can't with me, come to think of it. I guess that's kinda selfish.
It was great to hear from you, and your missive came at a good time for it to come for me, as frustrating as it was to try to write a reply. I'm working as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at a Japanese highschool, so I had a ton of time off during their semester change-over in March and April. Lucky for me I got to break my fucking arm on the first weekend of that extra-ordinarily long time off, so even my limited plans went out the window. Having things to do, or at least think about, was a blessing.
The more thorough update on me (the one you will conspicuously not find on this so-called live-journal) goes as follows, more or less: I had to take almost two years off from College from the Summer of 2003 until 2005 because of money. In that time I actually attended a semester at Keene State thinking "loser, just fucking graduate so we can get on with this", but, finding the academics less than acceptable, decided instead to work for a year, waiting for my 24th birthday, when I could be considered "on my own" for financial aid purposes. I graduated in 06 with a degree in history and martial arts.
At the end of the summer of 2006 I moved to Japan to work at an English conversation school in Chiba prefecture, next to Tokyo, with the goal of becoming fluent in Japanese before I die. Now, we have always known that language, even my own, was not a strong point of mine, and I was well aware of the difficulties English speakers have learning Japanese (same is true in reverse, it's important to note), but I set myself that task anyway, hoping I was up to the challenge. Come to find out that fluency is really just one of a few major skills encompassed in communicating in a foreign language, one that comes relatively easily if one is dedicated to it, so I have since set myself a number of other goals in Japanese, and they are still my major pursuit here.
At the end of the summer of 08 I changed jobs, houses and routines. I'm now a regular teacher in a Japanese school, helping Japanese English Teachers (JETs) in the classroom, living a 6am-11pm or so lifestyle. Yuko, my girlfriend here, and I are living together, and it's kind of a homey, daily life kind of thing, as odd as that sounds coming from me. We go drinking with her dad. We have parties. We travel, though only somewhat (we went home to Keene for Christmas, pics on Facebook if you'd like). I study Japanese, she studies English. We fight about food (I'm a no-carb paleo eater, she's Japanese). She is learning hip-hop dance and flower arranging. I was practicing Iaido (sword drawing), Aikido and Kendo, playing basketball, and learning a traditional kind of Japanese singing called Shigin (obviously haven't basketballed or martial arted since March, but I'm hoping to get back to it). I'm involved in an exercise program/ community called Crossfit, which since I see you've been on the 'go hard' bandwagon I'll recommend to you, if you haven't heard of it before. It's very easy to access online if you're interested yourself or wanna know what I'm trying to be up to.
Ok, you couldn't possibly wanna hear more about me, but I want to hear more about you, so when you get the chance, pass me along a few details in an email or over this thing or on Facebook (which is actually easiest for me). Not to demand too much, but like, a chronological, story-form narrative, perhaps in the 3rd person, composed with only the most indicative anecdotes from the past few years would be splendid. Please include how fucking satisfied you are that that person turned into a whale who can't stand up under her own power and eats fluff sandwiches, mixed with coca-cola and pureed, through a straw (I have absolutely no evidence to back that up, just logical conjecture).

Date: 2009-05-12 12:15 pm (UTC)I've heard of Crossfit, but don't know much about it - I will look further. Do you know the gymrats community here on LJ? That one is pretty good, and the inevitable "I weigh 120 pounds and I want to lose weight, how can I train without bulking up?" posts are mocked mercilessly. Mercilessly, I tell you.
