Title: The Lord-Protector's Daughter
Author: LE Modesitt, Jr
Series: Corean Chronicles, #8
Genre: Fantasy, fiction. I'd say in terms of age this is an 'older teens or adults' book.
Pages: 284
Copyright Date: 2008
Cover: A green, fey-looking creature with pointed digist against an ominous grey background. And an orange sticker that says, "A Perfect Place to Enter the Corean Chronicles $22.95/$25.95 CAN" It is the sticker that drew me in - I don't normally read series books out of order.
First line: "In the late afternoon of Octdi, Mykella dismounted at the base of the ramp leading to the north end of the Great Piers of Tempre."
Best part: Mykella and her sisters are very likeable characters.
Worst part: Predictable.
Grade: C+.
Recommended for: People who have wondered where to start with Modesitt.
Related Reads: The Magic of Recluce by the same author, Sorcery and Cecilia by Patricia Wrede and Caroline Stevermer, Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith.
I picked this up in the "new books" section of the library on a whim, and read it in a few days. It was neither bad nor especially great. C+.
