yes, my LJ has been archived.

The next question is, if this all goes away, what blog system would be a good one to switch to? I like blogging and I want to keep doing it (especially about books and working out). I like the social networking aspect as well but thus far have not been interested in places like MySpace. It seems... kind of crowded and noisy in there, if you know what I mean.
Does anyone who reads this blog have experience with blogspot, wordpad, or other non-LJ blogging tools?
ETA: LJ press release says that they're just moving to Russia, after all. Yet I see many friends posting to say they're moving to Vox. Hmmmmm...

Date: 2009-01-07 01:40 am (UTC)If you do decide to go to IJ (or any other blogging sites that use the LJ code), there are instructions here for archiving your LJ and restoring it to the other site. The only thing I've found that's a problem with restoring it is if you use filters to post, they may not import with the correct filters. I haven't used tags in my journals but some of the comments say that those don't transfer either. If you just want to archive your LJ so you can start from scratch elsewhere, you can use either LJ-Archive or LJ-Sec (both tools mentioned in the post above) to back it up to your hard drive.

Date: 2009-01-07 02:16 pm (UTC)"Protected entries are visible if the user requesting the RSS feed is able to authenticate with InsaneJournal and has permission to see the entries. For example, if you view your RSS feed in your browser while logged in, you will see all your most recent entries in it. However, someone who is not logged in, or someone you do not list as a friend, would not be able to see any protected entries in the feed. For most RSS aggregators and newsreaders, this will mean that only public entries are included. This is because they generally do not provide any means of cookie authentication."
and I friendslock most of my entries.
