Yesterday I heard that Miyazaki is doing a movie of Diana Wynne Jones' book _Howl's Moving Castle_. That's going to be awesome. I am planning to get the book out of the library right away, in preparation. Anybody want to form a posse to see it in the theater?

Last night my partner J and I went to see Blade: Trinity. Go see it.

I'll admit I wasn't expecting great things. I thought to myself, "If it's pretty, and doesn't have the Marquis de Sade in it, I'll be happy." Amazingly, it had much more. The female lead was not Blade's love interest. It had other interesting and non-stereotypical characters. And this was absolutely the funniest movie of all three, because Ryan Reynolds rocked the fucking house.

He wasn't even on the movie posters as far as I know. But he stole the show, with interrogation lines like, "Okay, okay! I'll tell you about the secret weapon! *pause* It's a new flavor crystal, with twice the chocolatey goodness and half the calories, that freshens your breath as you eat it!" Those who are fans of watching pretty boys get tortured sexily (yes, [livejournal.com profile] starkeymonster, I'm talking to you) will REALLY like this movie.

There were also implications that the female lead, NOT Ryan Reynolds, was Blade's protege. Very very nice.

It wasn't perfect by any means. Parker Posy as a vampire... well. And several plot devices were re-used from previous movies. But it's worth seeing just for Ryan Reynolds, who, I'd also like to mention, is shirtless and bloody for a significant amount of the movie.

Mmmm, Ryan Reynolds.

Yeah, he was definitely the bomb in this movie. Really funny, kicks ass, and doesn't die from massive internal injuries, as I would if I was beaten up the way he was. Parker Posie was just ... disturbing in that role. Her look was ... creepy. The genetically re-engineered animals were amusing. Oh, and let's not forget the eye-candy that was Big Daddy Vampire, shall we? I'd say the least impressive thing about this movie was Blade himself.
