Hell Freezes Over

Ice is forming on Sisphysus's rock. (Not to mention his protruding entrails.) Beatrice has put a white lambswool hat on her head. (For purity, you know?) Lillith is wrapping up in a biker jacket and pashmina scarf. Lucifer is dressed head-to-toe in the fur of small, cute, intelligent animals.

Yes, bois and grrls, I have given in and gotten a livejournal.

Why, you might ask? Well, there are several reasons.

1) Five years ago, when I first took my hard anti-live-journal stance, it seems that livejournal's main use was in creating and expanding drama. It has been demonstrated to me that this is no longer the case. To wit, all of my friends seem to have lj accounts these days, and many, even most of them, are not drama queens.

2) Speaking of which, more and more events that I care about are posted on livejournal, not to mention discussions of things that interest me.

3) I am about to lose my job, which will mean I will have even more gobs of free time on my hands, and I really don't want to join any more mailing lists.

4) Where else could I post about crocheting projects and kinky sex in the same place?

I am still concerned about drama avoidance, and will do my best to be careful about that, probably by not posting anything about my relationships (except for the bits that have to do with kinky sex).

What I do intend to post is stuff about the yarn projects I have finished or am working on, books I am reading, DVDs I'm watching, parties I'm attending, and food I'm making. Could be monumentally boring, could be interesting. You be the judge.

Now, all you many many people I know on livejournal, give me love so I feel less insane for doing this!

Love to you!

you know, telling us to mock you if we must makes it so much less appealing.

Yeah, that was kind of the idea.

Mocking love via an icon.

Gods, I can't remember the last time I had any real LJ drama. I've had real drama bleed over, briefly. It's been months and months. I throw the occasionaly hissy-fit (there was a particularly nasty one one November 2nd), but mostly I've realized that I use this to communicate with just about everyone. Still, drama does happen, but because it's the internet, it's easy to walk away.

Yay! Welcome aboard, please leave your spare time at the gate.

Lots o' love! I for one will be *very* interested in your reading list (since I can't keep it in my head when you tell me verbally). Maybe I should use my LJ for the same purpose ...

[identity profile] lady-anemone.livejournal.com 2004-12-16 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I miss having a reading journal online. The way I used to do it took up too much of my time, and so I gave it up... I think it'll be fun to have again.

yes indeed, welcome to the murky depths of LJ. i hope you find something besides old tires :).

I am still concerned about drama avoidance, and will do my best to be careful about that.

-An axiom I've developed is this: Ambiguity + negativity = drama. I.e., posting that you feel bad about something/one, without giving details, always causes problems, since lots of people will assume it's about them.

(Ambiguity + positivity, on the other hand, can be really entertaining, in a good way. I've had people wistfully accuse me of sadism, for saying really nice things, without specifying who they apply to.)

-The flip side of that is, when someone else makes an ambiguous + negative post, the best thing to do is assume it isn't about you, and move on.

-Oh, and: Welcome to LJ. You have been assimilated. We have fetishy black outfits. And cookies.

*blink*. Wow! Welcome. Glad to see you here!

Before I got a LiveJournal account, I, too, thought of it as the psychodrama tool. But I (On the other hand, Cthulhu just fell on my keyboard and moved the cursor here, so maybe that's an omen.)also haven't had much drama stir itself up since I joined.

Happy welcome wishes!

Hi there

It took me a little while to notice you'd joined the ranks :) that's what I get for being so out of touch. Hope you had a good holiday season.

Five years ago, when I first took my hard anti-live-journal stance, it seems that livejournal's main use was in creating and expanding drama. It has been demonstrated to me that this is no longer the case.

Livejournal is like any other Western city.  If you simply point your sceptre out the window at random and try to engage in conversation -- or listen to the ones already happening -- then yes, you're likely to turn up a fair amount of venom and superciliousness.  That doesn't mean it's a bad city; it just means you have to look around a bit for the pockets of people with whom you communicate best.  I think you know how to do that.

At any rate, a belated welcome, and I hope you find what you're looking for (and whatever you do don't add me to your friends list... the excessively right-brain material would probably just upset you for no good reason.  There, you are warned).

Gaah.

Left-brain, left-brain.  (Been reading too many acrimonious "year in review" posts that mentioned the election, that's what that was.)
