Now that Melting Stones is out in book format, I wanted to reread Will of the Empress, the previous book in the long Magic Circle series, and imo the best I've read so far. Will of the Empress mostly lived up to my memory of it, although occaisionally I thought the villains were being kind of dumb. All of them in this book follow the same pattern - be nice, be nice, ask for what you want, and when you have been firmly turned down, take it by force. That got a little predictable by the end (though obviously I did know where the book was going this time). Probably my favorite character was that of the Empress herself - stunning but insecure, good and bad for her empire at the same time.
Four stars. Still my favorite of the sequence.
