snugglekittyI had previously read a short story by this author in Powers of Detection, I believe it was - an anthology of mystery pieces with fantastic elements.
The time? The roaring twenties. The place? New York City.
Allegra Chase is a rare creature - a vampire who has no allegiance to her clan, no place in their hierarchy. She amuses herself with outrageous dress and behavior, and the patronage of a local speakasy.
Griffin Durant, a lone werewolf, may be more like her than she chooses to admit. Despite his business empire, his conservative tastes, and his young ward, he too is a creature of the night.
Can their smoldering passion and zest for life be enough to protect them from the dark forces that seek to control, or even destroy them?
I enjoy period fantasy, especially when it's from the Victorian era or later. I found this surprisingly good. I recommend it to all fans of romantic fantasy or the era. Four stars.
