So, my exciting fermentation news is that my kombucha brew is finally starting to grow a baby. YAY! I am going to leave it in peace for a while and hopefully I will be delivered of a new SCOBY. (Hey, it's exciting to me, okay?)

Also, I have found an online kombucha newsletter and a kombucha community on LJ. Also also, [livejournal.com profile] dakotakym has shown me some better directions than the ones I was using before - right here at the Happy Herbalist. Last on the kombucha front, I have discovered that the Minuteman library system has a kombucha book available. Whee!

When we were at a restaurant a few weeks ago, I convinced [livejournal.com profile] teratomarty to order some Indian pickles with me. [livejournal.com profile] mrpet warned me that they would be very hot and very sour, so I mixed them with some raita. The heat would have been a problem without that, but I really liked them. [livejournal.com profile] teratomarty did not. [livejournal.com profile] trouble4hire said, "I think those are the kind of pickles you have to work up to. LadyA has been training for a while, so she can handle it."

I think that may be true. When I started drinking kombucha, I thought it tasted weird, but it made me feel really great so I kept drinking it. Now it just tastes delicious to me. :) Similarly, when I started eating live pickles every day, I was kind of "whatever" about it. I mean, it was fine, but not exciting. Now I would totally miss them if I stopped eating them. Also, I have gotten more okay with pickles being more sour and salty.

Are YOU trained for pickle consumption? Enquiring minds want to know!

ETA: Oh, yeah, and I have a pickle icon now. Yay!

I'm trained on kim chee. From the first time I tried it, I was in love. I've worked my way up from a little bit with bulgogi to liking to eat it super spicy straight out of the jar in large quantity. I just learned how to make my own, too, which is super yummy and not that hard.

I like kim chee also but am not much of a pickle connoisseur beyond that. I'm game to try anything once. Well, anything in the pickle realm that is.
