literacy class, part four
Apr. 16th, 2005 04:49 pmYesterday was Books and Materials day. I was really amazed by the number of resources that are available. Some of them look just awesome, like the Oxford Picture Dictionary and the ESL Miscellany. And some strike me as such wonderful ideas, like the Writers' Voices series (excerpts from well-known writers like Angelou and Fulghum for adult learners) and some romance novels written for low reading levels.
We were also given our student matches, which was very exciting. I tried to call mine today to set up our first meeting (which will not be a tutoring session, but rather just arranging the logistics) but her number was disconnected. Hopefully the agency can give me a better way of getting in touch with her.
If it doesn't work out, I hope they can find me another match. The limiting factors are that I don't have a car and am not quite in the area that the agency serves, and that I need to work with a woman, at least for the time being.
