Genius Squad by Catherine Jinks
Jun. 20th, 2008 08:09 pmJinks really hit the big time with this series. The first one, Evil Genius, was one of my favorite books last year. So far I have been unmoved by her other works.
Cadel Piggot has it tough. His mother is dead, his father is in jail and refuses to acknowledge him. The foster family he is stuck with doesn't believe in the concept of personal privacy. Worst of all, he no longer has consistent access to the tool of his dreams - a computer. But things change when Cadel and his best friend Sonja are invited to join the Genius Squad. Is everything as it seems?
This is that rare breed, the sequel that is just about as good as the original. We see much more of Sonja and Cadel in this book. Cadel has learned some morality from Sonja, and his harrowing experiences in the first book. It's interesting to see how he handles peril with his new outlook. I can't wait for the next book, Genius Wars. If you like YA or heroes and villains, you have to give this series a try. Four stars.
