[books] The Merro Tree by Katie Waitman
Apr. 14th, 2005 08:54 amThis book was a suggestion from
bitty. I loved it. I thought it was wonderful. In fact, it was so good that I'm having a hard time coming up with things to say beyond "It rocked and you should read it!"
Some of the book's topics include: censorship, performance, interracial relationships, mentoring, cultural identity/ownership, disability, and trauma recovery. It's also very queer and poly and somewhat kinky.
I loved the character development, and the descriptions of the performances, and the cross-cultural interactions. It also had a great ending.
I think
bearsir and
michellemybell would particularly like it.
bearsir, I know you don't normally do sci fi, but you might want to give this one a try. I think
an_gadhar and
samidha might like it a lot too, but I'm less sure about that.
It really did rock and you really should read it.
