Leda Hubbard has been offered a chance to live the life she's always wanted - to be an archaeologist. The reason? A top-secret, very expensive experimental procedure called blending, in which the DNA of two people are mixed. The kicker? Only one of them needs to be alive. The hunt is on for the remains of the famous Queen Cleopatra.

"'Taxi, madame?' An unmarked elderly Buick in front of her sprouted a head and torso from the driver's-side (sic) window.
She felt like laughing and was first glad her sense of humor hadn't deserted her, then realized it was probably hysteria. The guy was enterprising, if unrealistic.
'You think I want to hire you to let me sit in your car while the sea breaks over the dam and drowns us?' she asked, 'Or were you planning to carry me piggyback?'
He slammed the driver's-side door into the vehicle beside his and jumped out, ran around the cab, popped the trunk, and lifted out a bicycle built for two. He displayed this with the same dramatic flare merchants at the market used to present 'an ancient necklace from the tomb of Nefertiti, oh yes, the one she was supposed to have been given on her wedding day.'
'Gosh,' Leda said, 'Is this the very same bike ridden by Cleopatra and Julius Caesar?'
'Ha ha. Madame is joking. That will be twenty dollars American, please.'
'Should be ten if I do half the pedalling.'
'Oh, no, madame. If I did all the work, it would cost you nothing because I would leave you here and save myself.'" p 137

This book is a madcap ride with lots of witty dialogue, skeezy jerks, family ties, and strange personality transfers. It's light and fun. It would make good beach reading. If you are not previous familiar with Elizabeth Scarborough, it would be a fine place to start, although I like her Godmother books better. Three stars.
