food questions from trouble4hire
Mar. 10th, 2008 06:50 pmWhat are your favorite foods? What do you miss the most since your allergies developed? What food have you developed a fondness for since your allergies developed, that you didn't like/know of before?
My favorite foods right now are strawberry shortcake (with biscuits and vanilla yogurt, not cake and cream), mushroom anything (pizza, pasta, stir fry, soup), bhatsamagu (delicious Tibetan dessert, kind of like fried dough with feta), cheese (most kinds except blue) and salad (especially fattoush and Caesar). I like to eat foods that make me feel good afterwards as well at the time, so I like food that is not very processed and contains a lot of produce. I also don't like things that are very sweet - soda is almost too sweet for me.
What I miss the most that I am allergic to, day to day, is pad thai. It was my perfect comfort food. Yes, I've had substitutions, which are very nice and soothing... but it's still not quite like restaurant pad thai. I'm not sure what it would take to accomplish that. But I miss it more than chocolate, and I really mean that.
I had never eaten quinoa before getting allergies, that I know of. If I regained the ability to eat rice, I would keep eating quinoa anyway, even though I started out using it as a rice substitute. It has a great texture and a nutty flavor that I really enjoy. I like it better than couscous, even, which was a major staple of my early twenties.
There is still time to ask me a question! Just go here.
