"What is your favorite fiber to knit with? Do you have a favorite yarn?"
Honestly, to knit with I probably like wool the best. This is ironic because I don't really like wearing wool - it makes me itch. But I love the stitch definition you get with it, especially for complex patterns like cables and laces, which I enjoy knitting. And I like the way it smells.
I don't have a favorite yarn per se. What I use the most for projects is yarn that I have frogged from thrift store sweaters, or other yarn than I swapped frogged yarn for. When I'm in yarn stores, I fondle alpaca and silk frequently. The yarn I buy the most of is sock yarn, because it cannot be frogged, it's usually pretty cheap, and I love to make socks.
In terms of color, I am usually drawn to variegated yarn in deeper colors - blues, greens, purples, pinks.
Also, I am not someone who only buys yarn for one project at a time. Nor am I someone who only buys yarn with a particular project in mind. Sometimes I just like something, want it, and get it. It can hang out with the other yarn in my stash until its day comes. Also, I like to buy something small when I visit a non-local independent yarn store (such as when I'm on vacation). I think it's fun.
I will answer your second question in another post. :)
