The Pushcart War by Jean Merrill
Feb. 4th, 2008 07:30 amThis was a loan from
trouble4hire, and I hope it marks the end of the books I will soon be posting in a list to the book review communities I belong to ("good books to read when you're sick"). The Pushcart War is a children's book - the story of a feud between truckers and pushcart vendors in NYC. I love the drawings, and I love the characters and dialogue. It will make you wish there were pushcarts in your town. I recommend it. Four stars.

Date: 2008-02-04 08:33 pm (UTC)I read this years ago, back when I was a kid. And I remember it because I don't think I "got" it. Maybe when I read I'm too literal, but as I recall it had lots of physical humor that I just didn't understand and didn't know was supposed to be funny.
But I was a pretty serious kid. I've loosened up a lot since then. Maybe I'd enjoy it more now.
