Any recipe where you have to dry-roast the spices and then grind them in a mortar and pestle? Is not "so simple."

In better news, my dream of carrot coconut soup WILL come to life.

The end.

I use a small coffee grinder which I keep expressly for spices. Beats the grind by hand thing.

I dry roast spices in a cast iron pan but I use an electric grinder to do the rest. Its a little handheld unit that chops small quantities of many things. Minces garlic well.

I have nothing against roasting and grinding spices (or other things) - it just doesn't strike me as a simple preparation, is all.

Nice icon. :)

I hope the recipe included the time it takes to dry roast the ingredients as part of the overall prep time.

The recipe might be simple for someone familiar with the steps but I agree they often are deceiving.
