As I feared, this third book did not live up to the promise of the previous two. The plot of this made much less sense than the other two, and the ending was... well... very odd. I don't want to give anything away, so I guess I'll just say that I wasn't satisfied by the ending. Why did I keep reading? The prose, the prose, the fabulous prose. The cant of Butterfly St. Cyr is just not to be missed. There was also a great quote, which
desert_born was kind enough to reproduce for me when I foolishly failed to write it down: "Sanity is a myth. Only adhere to some basic standards of good grooming and manners, and you may believe what you wish." I found that charming, although I'm not sure I agree. Three stars for Archangel Blues.
