This week, I finished reading Reserved for the Cat by Mercedes Lackey and The Blue Djinn of Babylon by PB Kerr.

Reserved for the Cat is, well, the sort of book we've come to expect from the Elemental Masters series. It was light and fluffy like angelfood cake. [livejournal.com profile] 7j was extremely bothered by the idea of a historical figure having been reincarnated as a talking animal, but it actually didn't bug me that much. They were low-key about it, which is funny, considering. I mean, they could have left out the $famousname and it wouldn't have changed anything. This series isn't going downhill, because it went downhill a while back. But that's okay and they're still really enjoyable (except for The Gates of Sleep which I hated). Three stars.

The Blue Djinn of Babylon is one of the Children of the Lamp adventures. They're definitely older child/YA type books, and they're mostly cheerful and easy to read, but difficult ideas are also introduced. In this book, the focus is on the need for an impartial arbiter between good and bad djinns, and what kind of creature it would take to do that sort of work, which is actually sort of creepy when you get down to thinking about it. I liked this book and it clearly set up future books in the series - I hope those will be good as well. If you like YA you should try this series. Three stars.

I also want the world to know that last night while I couldn't sleep, I was thinking about what kind of gum all of the characters on CSI would chew. Hey, at least I wasn't worrying.

I conclude this post with a link to a picture of kittens in a basket, just to round things out.

Hey, guess who finally got her license, or you know, that fake version of her license? And the system was down again. Yeah.

Congratulations! Good on you for persevering. I know how frustrating it was. *hugs*
