A Lick of Frost by Laurell K Hamilton
Nov. 14th, 2007 03:12 pmOh, Hamilton, what depths you sink to.
I don't mean that. I really don't. Micah was so much worse. But basically this is Faery Porn. If that works for you, then great. If you're looking for substance, you're in the wrong section. I was actually rather surprised when the book started developing a plot unexpectedly near the end. Still, it's good fun. Two and a half stars.
On the other hand, I was unable to finish The Godmother by Carrie Adams. I read the first eighty pages, and then I realized that I didn't like where the book was going and I wasn't enjoying it at all. So I stopped. (Do you ever stop books before you're done?

And it's well written (though I haven't read her most recent)

Date: 2007-11-14 09:02 pm (UTC)I returned LKH's last vampire book almost untouched. I may have read the first few pages. I just couldn't bring myself to read the whole thing or even flip through to "the good parts". I wanted to like it but my faith in her even to simply entertain me on a way-easy level has been lost.

Date: 2007-11-15 04:03 am (UTC)If they weren't so *obnoxiously* heterosexual, I would enjoy them more. On the other hand, I suspect that actual heterosexuals would not consider them so... so whaddya do?
But I do like the cosmos she makes. It's fun. I liked... er... fuck. I forget the name. It was a fairy thingie set in boston... better. Tired now. There were druids. Don't remember the name. UGH! Left it in PR. May never know. Sigh. Fun and lighthearted book.

Date: 2007-11-15 10:03 pm (UTC)I generally use the Nancy Pearl mandate - if I don't like anything about the book by page 50, I put it down. I also put it down at any point if I feel that I don't anticipate getting any more enjoyment out of it. But that doesn't happen to me often.
