Lord of the Fire Lands by Dave Duncan
Oct. 25th, 2007 05:28 pmThis book is another book in the King's Blade series, as was The Gilded Chain, which I posted about a little while back. Unfortunately, I didn't like it as well as the first book. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The Firelands society that was the focus of the book was believable - probably the best thing about it. However, I really disliked the way the male characters broke down and humiliated the female characters. Maybe that was to show that they weren't nice guys? I couldn't quite tell. Still, it was a little depressing. Or something. The author wrote that while this book, the first book, and the third book are all stand-alones, reading any two of them will show inconsistencies that will only be resolved by reading whichever one you didn't read. I suppose I'll wind up reading book three. But not for a while - reading really good fantasy makes you not want to read fantasy that's only so-so. At least, it has that effect on me.
Next up in fantasy reads for me: The Naming, Legacy, and The Ladies of Grace Adieu.
