Yesterday I finished Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones. Somehow I had missed reading this book as a child and teenager. No explanation. It was okay but not great. Three stars. If you like dogs a lot, you'll probably like it more than I did.

Today I finished Winter Rose by Patricia McKillip. I don't know whether I had read it before - much of it seemed unfamiliar, but I recognized one of the central images. Anyway, I read (or reread) it so I could read Solsticd Wood, the sequel. I liked it well enough. Three stars.

Finally, today I also read Inside Job by Connie Willis. [livejournal.com profile] chienne_folle once told me that Willis writes only madcap romances and books about death. As far as I can tell, this is true. Anyway, this book was incredibly funny. If you like HL Mencken, you should read it. It even made me want to try reading a biography of him, and biographies don't do it for me. Four stars.

Actually, it wasn't me who said that. But whoever said it, I'm glad it turned out to be true. :-)

I can't remember if I read Winter Rose either, so reading Solstice Wood was a little odd. It sounded familiar. Sort of. I still really liked Solstice Wood, though.

I *do* like dogs a lot and dogsbody still isn't one of my favorites of hers. If i recall correctly, it was too sad for me at the end. DWJ has a few books that I find to be a bit disappointing, but the others can be so fantastic that they easily make up the difference.

Still appreciating the reviews!
