In a burst of energy, I cleaned my closet.
I tried on every single item in it. Those that did not fit, or that were damaged, or that I knew in my heart of hearts I would never wear again, I rejected. Probably a third. Mostly things that haven't fit me in a long time (physically or aesthetically) that I just haven't had the heart to get rid of.
So, goodbye, knockout burgundy velvet dress. I wore you to the senior formals in college and danced with a pretty, crazy girl with long auburn hair.
Goodbye, old cotton salwar-kameez. You made some of the summer's most unbearable days livable.
Goodbye, stunning black silk shirt. I hardly had a chance to know you. So sad you went in the dryer by accident.
Goodbye, senior prom dress. I called you the priestess dress for your elegance and shoulder broaches. I hope that someone lovely whose hips didn't spread like mine will find you.
Goodbye, blue college interview skirt. You stood me in good stead for many interviews.
Goodbye white ruffly gauzy dress. I will forever remember the day someone I knew from high school showed up at the goth club I was going to after college. My words, "What are you doing in my goth club?" His words, "Nice dress."
That was very satisfying. Clean your closets, everybody!
