songs for a birthday
May. 14th, 2007 04:06 pmSo, as most of you know, my birthday is coming up. This year, I want to have a birthday mix with songs that talk about getting older in a positive way, and/or circle of life type stuff. Got any suggestions?
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Get Out the Map - Indigo Girls
Little Bird - Annie Lennox
Feet of a Dancer - Maura O'Connell
Love You in the Middle - Maura O'Connell
Happy Baby - Shaye
Everything Possible - Fred Small
River - Bill Staines
Spirit Song - Bill Staines
Moonshadow - Cat Stevens
You're Aging Well - Dar Williams
I would love to find a musically recorded version of the poem Phenomenal Woman - I did hear it performed that way once* - but that may be too much to ask for. Surely, the world must have more happy songs about getting older than these? (ETA: Apparently a woman named Amy Sky recorded a version. Now if only I can get my hands on it...)
I'm also planning to include a few songs that I have loved intensely at different times in my life. (Of course, I also have to not dislike the song now, which is definitely a limiting factor.) If you're interested, right now the list is:
Rooty Toot Toot for the Moon - Lui Collins
Summer Breeze - Seals and Croft
Angel - Eurythmics
Firefly - Delirium
Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield
*It was performed by a large ensemble called Women in the Village at UMass Amherst in the late '90s. Very helpful, I know.

Paul Simon:

Otherwise... nothing immediately occurs to me. Have fun with this, though!

Also, the Penn State A Cappella women's group Savoir Faire has done a rendition, and they have cds available if you email them.
