[Poll #973327]

Backstory: I called [livejournal.com profile] 7j today to complain of freezes, unrequested restarts, and odd error messages. She suggested that the inside of my computer might be dirty, and that this could be slowing down the fan. I aimed the back of the vaccuum towards the back of the case and ran it for a few minutes, and lo and behold, my computer is running so much better!

I opened the case and discovered that my video card and mother board were practically invisible under all the dust. I vacuumed the inside (VERY carefully!), and it helped loads.

Yes, as preventive maintenance (not to deal with a pre-existing problem).

Actually, I generally use compressed air for this rather than a vacuum cleaner. But yes, keep the innards clean. Heat can cause flaky behaviour, and/or dead components.
