Why Nerds are Unpopular

I think that many of you will find this piece thought-provoking.

Wow.
"Thought-provoking" doesn't begin to cover it.

It brought up a lot of memories, feelings, and ideas for me, as well as confirming the strong conviction that I would homeschool any children I had. *grin* I'm really glad you liked it, too.

By my internal definitions, I'm a freak rather than a nerd (I always knew what it took to be popular, I just wasn't willing to play the game) but was always seen as a nerd by others, and definitely got put in that slot of the high school hierarchy. This guy really remembers what it's like, and really gets how it works. It put things in new perspective for me.

Ditto, but I think that's actually how my classmates perceived me. (The whole painter/poet/deadhead thing helped with that. That and going out to the woods to smoke during lunch.) Anyway, two days ago I was trying to explain the difference to my therapist and I was having trouble with it. Now I've got a copy of the essay to give to her.

Thank you for the link as well as your excellent timing ;-)
