I just found out about this charity:

http://bostonprojectlinus.homestead.com/home.html

Which gives homemade security blankets to kids who have just been through chemo or similar traumas.

This is just the charity opportunity I have been looking for! They desire blankets that are between thirty-six by thirty-six inches and forty by sixty inches that can be machine washed and dried which do not contain angora or mohair. They will take blankets that are quilted, knitted, or crocheted.

So, if you have a little time and are feeling crafty, make a security blanket for someone who really needs one. If you are not crafty, there are other ways you can help - see them here.

One awesome thing is, Rachel-the-roommate has agreed to try to teach me to crochet, and if I can actually do it (NOT going to assume I can, since knitting was an utter failure.... basically my grandmother tried to teach it to me for 20-30 minutes and then proclaimed me to be too uncoordinated and it was just...entirely too embarrassing....), this would be an awesome way to keep those skills going.

Of course, tell that to my arthritis. Sigh. Ow. ;)
