goddess-y anthology
Mar. 13th, 2007 04:50 pmI have now finished reading Maiden, Matron, Crone, edited by Kerrie Hughes and Martin H. Greenberg. This book has been sitting on my shelf for way too long since
starkeymonster gave it to me.
There weren't any stories in it that made me go, "OMG, that's so good, I have to read it again RIGHT NOW!" but there also weren't any stories that I felt I had to skip. For an anthology, that's pretty good. My favorite stories were: "A Lingering Scent of Bacon" by Brenda Cooper, which has a feeling of magical realism to it, "Bearing Life" by Devon Monk, which I found very touching, "Advice from a Young Witch to an Old Priestess" by Rosemary Edgehill, featuring her well-known character Bast as an Outer Court seeker, and "Opening Her Door" by Alexander B. Potter, which explores the idea of men devoting themselves to Goddess.
I'd give it three stars. I wish the editors had taken more risks with this collection - none of it was really better than "good" or worse than "average."
