Do you see how you are living and how you choose to direct your energies as changing the world in a blueprinted/planned-out/hoped-for way?

Interesting one. I've heard something similar to this question when people want to find out if I identify as an activist. (I don't.)

I see two parts to this question - one, am I living in a way that I think will change the world? Two, if so, is the change that I'm looking for a specific one? (If I'm not getting to the heart of your question, feel free to leave another comment and I'll keep trying.)

First question. Do I think my way of living will change the world? I don't know. Do I hope that it will? Definitely. Is that why I'm living my life the way I am? No. Living the way I do makes me feel good about myself, and true to myself. It also gives me the life I want, if that's not too much of a paradox. That's where my energy gets focused - those are the results that I'm definitely counting on and do expect.

I think that if a lot more people did some of the things that I do (negotiating their relationships, practicing honesty and openness, supporting folks who make different choices from them, walking their talk, doing work that they love) then the world would change. Will that happen? No idea. I'm not even sure what the watershed point would be, either.

Is there a specific goal I'm aiming for? Well, I'd like polyamory to be more accepted, and I'd like women's experiences of birth to change. (Specifically, I'd like most women to be able to make the birth choices they want, without feeling pressured by the medical establishment.) But those are big goals, not concrete ones. I imagine that what I'm doing creates small steps that move the world in that direction, not that they'll change the world by itself.

Keep those letters coming!
