How much is it okay to push the universe or reality to be the way you want? I don't mean encroaching on other people's rights, like love spells. But why don't more wiccans / pagans / folks do money spells?
Do you think it is okay to do one for oneself, or only for another?

Okay, this is several questions all at once. I'll see what I can cover here. Please bear in mind that this is my opinion - I can't speak for "all wiccans/pagans."

First, there's not an infinite supply of magic in the universe. Magic is not wish-fulfillment. It doesn't come without a price. Therefore, you have to be careful how you use it. I'm sure we're all familiar with the story of the monkey's paw, yes? I don't do spells asking for things for myself unless three things are true:
1) I really need the thing I'm asking for
2) I feel that I have exhausted mundane-reality approaches that would get me this thing, and most significantly
3) I am willing to accept the consequences of the spell, without knowing in advance what they will be.

To me, it's not so much a matter of ethics as common sense and wishing to avoid negative consequences. In most cases, these three things are not all true at once, so I don't do it. I don't want to use up my magickal "juice" on something trivial, and then not have any power to deal with a situation that's a true emergency and cannot be fixed using other means.

Another approach to this question is: why do you need money? Do you need money to feed your hungry children? Are you unable to work? Or would it just be nice to get a new iPod? Are the potential benefits worth the potential consequences?

The spirits like it when you ask for things for other people, so I'm more willing to do stuff like that for others. I hope that my generosity of spirit in doing so, along with the help of entities that support this way of being, will balance out any unexpected negative repercussions. I don't do spells for other people frivolously, but I'm more ready to say yes, if they can give me good cause why it needs to happen.

I can't speak for all pagans, but for my part - there's never been a time in my life where I needed more money THAT much, and couldn't do anything to get it. If you have a good relationship with the universe, it takes care of you in return. Money is somewhat tight in my life right now compared to some earlier years. But I have a roof over my head, food, warm clothes - who am I to be complaining when there's so much abundance in my life? Believing that the universe is abundant removes a lot of the idea that you asking for money is taking something away from someone else. But if you really have that mindset, that the universe is abundant, you are probably too involved with counting your many blessings to do a money spell, because you know how much you have.

I hope I answered your question. If not, leave a comment and ask more specifically - they'll be screened, too.

You're welcome. I'm glad that was what you were looking for.

In thinking, though, I wanted to qualify - it's not really that there's a limited supply of magic in the universe. Maybe more like, a limited supply that one person can access for personal benefit? If I'm trying to help someone else, various spirits and powers always seem willing to lend a hand. But, the more you use it, the more you can access... but the more you use it, the less you want to use it for personal gain. A nice little paradox.
