happy in her work
Feb. 2nd, 2007 11:04 amSo, recently, I've been working.
queen_of_wands and I are creating something like a working partnership. We're giving each other reciprocal backup and lots of encouragement, as well as working jointly on things like marketing, contracts, and certification study. It's going really, really well. Tell a pregnant friend about us! She's working the North Shore, I'm working Camberville and Boston. I am also now acting as backup to my former backup,
abilouise, whose massage practice took off so much she couldn't provide consistent backup to me anymore.
I've also been doing some editing. I have been helping
abilouise create website content, which is going awesomely, in exchange for some much-needed massage. I also proofread the book I [heart] Female Orgasm, which is a must-read for female orgasm novices or gourmets, for ca$hmoney. Both of those exchanges have been very satisfying, and I only want more!
I think more editing would fit really well with my career as a doula, better than temping perhaps if I can make a go of it. It makes use of the many daytime hours I have free, plays to strengths I don't use much in my primary work, and doesn't require a lot of interaction with other people or keeping to a strict schedule or dress code. I can also do as much or as little of it as I want. This is going swimmingly, and it's something I've always been good at, so if you think you'd be interested in having me do this for you, or you know someone who's looking for editing or writing help, let me know. I can do proofreading level straight on through "how could this be a better piece?" for barter or cash, anything from a three-page paper to a full-length book. I'm also really good at helping people to put their thoughts in order and communicate what they need to communicate.
Perhaps most awesomely, and most importantly, I've been feeling able to make plans, commit to plans, show up to plans. I've been being social and doing stuff. In some ways, losing a sense of being connected to other people has been the hardest thing about not working. Networking is really important for any work that I might do. Overall, it's great to get back in the game.
"The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones." I sometimes feel like I'm not doing much, but when I add it all up, it's amazing how much I'm doing.
