I need more sexy music. What's your favorite album for getting in the mood? Tell me what you'd find appropriate for a romantic evening, a long sweaty night, or a hot and heavy scene.

These days, I'm really liking Portishead and Jeff Buckley for those special moments. Plus the Sexy mix of [livejournal.com profile] mrpet.

No music comes to mind for me for a long sweaty night or a hot and heavy scene, but piano music does it for me for romantic evenings. Aside from ragtime, most anything that has a piano as the featured instrument will have the right feel, I think. Start with Chopin, and work from there.

In the opposite vein:
I would say that "Puff, the Magic Dragon" is the worst possible music for either the sweaty or the heavy purpose, but then someone would prove me wrong. In any case, avoid it. If, by some horrible miscalculation, it does come on, DO NOT TRY TO IGNORE IT. Stop, change the music, then continue. Trust me.

I prefer jazz piano to classical, myself, but I should get some more of that. Yes, I definitely should.

I actually once saw people do a prolonged impact play scene to a They Might Be Giants album. That was strange.

Ooh, Portishead. For some reason, Led Zeppelin really gets me juiced. And your post is fortuitous, because I was just listening to "Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon" off the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, and damn is that a sexy song. I love Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart", but I don't like anything else of theirs. :)

I'm trying to think of whole albums and it's hard! Um, Organism by Jimi Tenor is a great album. Jorn and I often listened to that. Oh, God, Sigur Ros! Their unpronounceable album Ágætis Byrjun is fantastic for really emotional love making. Just a gorgeous album, but it's ruined for me now because it'll always make me cry. :/

Really stupid cheesy bands like Foreigner and the Scorpions make me feel really happy, which in turn makes me more interested in long sweaty nights.

I hear you on the Led Zeppelin thing. Whenever I hear them on the radio my hips start moving, and there's not a damn thing I can do about it.

What are Jimi Tenor and Sigur Ros like?

Hmm, well, Sigur Ros is Swedish or something, but the guy sings in a language he made up. :) Their music is slow and intense and beautiful, very... thick, layered kind of sound. Jimi Tenor, on the other hand, is peppy and fun. I'll try to put some songs up on yousendit so you can check them both out.

Also on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack: Dusty Springfield's Son of a Preacher Man is one hell of a sexy song.

For hot and heavy (though some of it may be a bit cheesey) Lords of Acid album Greatest Tits.

You're right about Dusty. That's "make out all night" music.

I am still partial to the Cure's Disintigration album.
Blue Man group works suprisingly well also... it has that Ear Candy Quality to it.

For scenes, I tend to like music with words that evoke a bottom-y feeling in me. I like certain cds by Counting Crows, Leonard Cohen, Nirvana, and REM a lot. Actually, I love REM's "Monster" to top *and* bottom to. Also NiN and Melissa Etheridge.

I don't really like classical or jazz music for scenes unless it is to evoke a period feeling in more complicated roleplaying scenes.

Fiest. She's a Canadian singer who reminds me a little of Sade, but with more edge. And she's a very good lyricist.

We met at Camp last year, during the Saturday night party. (I was the one with all the extra cash)

For romantic/sensual sex, check out a group called Mythos (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_i_1/103-6371482-6418231?ie=UTF8&keywords=Mythos&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AMythos%2Ci%3Apopular&page=1) and The Changelings (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_m/103-6371482-6418231?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=The+Changelings&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go). They are both sensual/slow quasi-instrumental. Aside from that, I let Margo pick the music or set up a mix.

[livejournal.com profile] margoeve recommends Massive Attack - "Mezzanine"; Anything Delerium or E.S. Posthumous.

I remember! That was fun.

I like Massive Attack and Delerium. Don't know the other groups, I'll have to try them out.

See you this weekend maybe. :)

I have done very well with Cirque du Soleil soundtracks. When there are words, they are not in English, and seem mostly to not be in languages familiar to my bottoms. Also, they are more easily projected-upon than some other groups - the affect is often quirky circus, or eery vocals, and yet can seem almost upbeat in an alien sort of way. So I can be nasty, devious, hard, comforting - whatever the scene dictates, and the music is multivalent enough so that there is not a clash.
