vampire trash
Jun. 16th, 2006 01:09 pmThis week I read Blood Surrender, one of ctan's vampire erotica anthologies. They please me. "Little Predator" was my favorite story this time around. Three stars. I don't know why I've never bought all of these books - mysteriously, I only have three. (My birthday is coming up, hint hint!)
I also read Undead and Unappreciated by MaryJanice Davidson (book 71 for the year). I'm still loving Betsy Taylor to death. They're still extremely funny. And yes, she is developing a moral compass, as
chienne_folle suggested.
As a sidenote, I am so sick of books that say on the cover, "If you love Anita Blake, you'll like..." when CE Murphy, Jim Butcher, MaryJanice Davidson leave Laurell K Hamilton flailing in the dust. She was the first person to popularize dark urban fantasy romance. Millions of people read her books. That does not mean they're good! Anybody starting a new genre falls into this trap. You're striking out, doing something entirely new, and so it's not going to be perfect. You're paving the way for later perfection. Like with Dungeons and Dragons.
ETA: For once, the "restore draft?" function worked in my favor - otherwise the power outtage would've made this post toast.
