I got Parallel Myths by JF Bierlein out of the library. When, in the introduction, it said that it was geared towards people who didn't know anything about mythology, I got suspicious. I found it to be... insufficiently academically rigorous. Also, I didn't like the quotes that the author chose to talk about mythology. And he didn't go anywhere near as far as he could have in talking about the relevance of mythology to modern life.
