proselytizing

Some ladies just came to visit me wanting to talk about Bible education.
They were actually very friendly. They were a little more made up than I would ever feel comfortable with on a weekday morning, but no one's perfect. I feel that I handled this visit better than I have handled others in the past. Rather than simply saying I wasn't interested, I explained that I was a pagan, and worshipped a Goddess as described in the Old Testament. They were actually curious and asked me questions. I answered a few and would have answered more if it were not that 1) my feet were getting very cold and 2) I suffered from a lingering suspicion that they were only asking questions to keep the conversation going in order to further attempt to convert me.
They actually knew their stuff, because when I referred to goddess-worshipping as described in the Old Testament, one of them said, "Oh, like Astarte or Inanna?" That pleased me. I find few things more annoying than people trying to convert me to a religion they don't understand themselves.
Of course, in retrospect, now I am wishing I had said a few things about the Gnostic Gospels, and the way that Christ's teachings have been perverted in mainstream Christianity. But hey, overall I feel it went pretty well.
