Today is the festival of love.
And I'm here to tell you, just like regime change, it starts at home.
What would it mean to cherish and protect yourself? What would it mean to love and honor yourself?

Here's what Diane DiMassa has to say:

"Look at me and promise that you'll never stop what you're doing just because someone looks at you funny. And that the words "I hate myself" will never come from your mouth. Promise yourself that the next time you have an idea and the little motherfucker in your head says "It ain't good enough," you'll rip its throat out. Promise the universe that you'll do the thing that makes your house rock."

The next time someone asks you to do something that will make you hurt inside, look them in the eyes and gently and firmly say "no." The next time you're hungry, eat the thing you really want to eat. The next time you get ready to mouth an empty platitude, stop! Find a way to state YOUR truth gently.

Ladies and gentlemen, we will all be living with ourselves for the rest of our lives. We should treat ourselves at least as well as our beloved partners. Nobody can love you like you do. Why not start today?

Thank you. I have very negative associations with v-day because of the first serious relationship I was in, and this is an excellent way to start resignifying it.

You're welcome.
I try to sow seeds... which would be a cliche, except that I'm thinking of Bill Hicks saying, "Anyone here who works in Marketing? Or Advertising? Kill yourselves." *wry smile*

Revenge of Hothead Paisan, a college favorite of mine. It has another really good quote about being different, too, which I'm appending below. They're interspersed with the violence.

"I mean like shit, if I call you a freak it means I can't think more of you. I like girls who wear black boots and don't know their place, I like freeeks who have no place cause I make 'em a place in my arms. Sometimes on a shitty day a freaky face beams me a smile and all of a sudden I RULE and I feel so good and I feel so proud to have an elephant trunk growing out of my forehead and to be loved (for exactly what I'm hated for) by the other groovy child with the canine teeth who just passed me and nodded his/her/it's head because we made each other remember... each other remember... can we have a moment of silence please to remember why we're
in... ECSTASY. Stop looking for the Goddess, you're it!"
