Danny, the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl
The Changeover by Margaret Mahy
Clan Apis by Jay Hosler
Danny, the Champion of the World was a book I really enjoyed as a child. One of the things I like about Dahl is that, like JK Rowling, he writes about a world in which bad things do happen to good people but wonder also exists. I love it every time I read it. I especially love the message at the end, telling children that children deserve parents who are SPARKY! I wish I had had sparky parents. I intend to re-read more Dahl soon. I give it four stars.
The Changeover was a suggestion from
ceelove. I liked it but didn't love it. My favorite parts were the descriptions of the demon and the everyday life of the main character. It reminded me a lot of The China Garden, but I didn't like it as much, and so I give it three stars.
Clan Apis was a tribal library loan from
7j. I liked it a lot. It was a graphic novel about the life of bees, which my father raised when I was a small person. I didn't learn much that I didn't already know from it, but it was a nice story.
I have some more YA books out of the library, which I will review as I go along.
