I know I've written about this here before.

I love reading aloud.

Probably my favorite thing to read aloud is YA fantasy. It's one of my favorite genres in general, and it's good for reading aloud - it tends to have a lyrical quality, and be easy to pick up and put down without the listener(s) getting confused.

I've read The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley aloud several times, to two or three different people, most recently [livejournal.com profile] michellemybell. What a great book - one of my favorites. This summer I read The Safe-Keeper's Secret to [livejournal.com profile] starkeymonster. A few days ago, I finished reading her the sequel, The Truth-Teller's Tale. We both enjoyed that a whole lot.

I know I've written about this before - but what do you enjoy reading aloud? What do you think should be next on my list?

My sister and I are really big into reading aloud, most commonly YA fiction; when we've travelled together, it's a given that that will be a central activity. I've really enjoyed reading both The Blue Sword and The Hero & the Crown, some of the Narnia books, Bridge of Birds (three times to various people, I hugely recommend it), the Darkangel Trilogy, The Changeover (Margaret Mahy), and some of the Harry Potter books. JB just finished reading Sunshine to me. :)

I love to read aloud too.

For great YA fantasy (of sorts - it's set in the real world, but with magical elements), check Isabel Allende's latest books for teens. I have been reading them in Spanish but I'm sure they are just as good in English. I'm trying to remember the titles - the Kingdom of the Golden Dragon, the Forest of the Pygmies....

I once read aloud Norse sagas in the car during a road trip...I read Egil's Saga and Thorkel's Saga.

"A Christmas Carol" reads aloud wonderfully. It's a good length for it, too. (I suspect all of Dickens reads aloud well)
"The Hobbit" and Tolkien's other non-lord of the rings stuff is nice. LOTR is probably good too, but it's denser in a way that probably interferes somewhat with reading aloud.

Dr. Seuss, of course. :-)
