So, my new sneakers are awesome. I didn't realize how much of a difference that would make in my willingness and ability to take walks. (Possibly duh?) But now my feet don't feel tired even after walking for a long time. Thanks to everyone who suggested Marathon Sports - they really are that good and didn't make fun of me for being a walker, not a runner. The sneakers didn't have a breaking-in period, either, at least not that I could tell - they were comfy from the walk home from the store onwards.

I walked to Arlington three times this week. And, yesterday afternoon, I walked to and then around Fresh Pond. That was a lovely walk. I'd like to do it again on a weekday, when presumably there will be fewer people and dogs. I prefer a solitary walking environment, which is great for weekdays. It took me a little more than an hour to walk around it, and it's 2.25 miles. So, basically, when I'm walking at least an hour a day, I'm walking around two miles a day, which is good to know. That makes it easier to plan how far I might be able to walk, given a map.

Today is another lovely day - I might take a walk again. I want to walk as much as possible before it starts getting even colder. Speaking of which, anyone have suggestions for where I can get fairly cheap but very warm excercise pants? Ideally the kind that is windbreaking and has an internal layer of fleecey stuff? In the meantime, I will probably just go wearing jeans, or my excercise pants over longjohns. I also had the brilliant idea of asking my in-laws to give me a parka for Christmas, 'cause I need that much more than knitting books.

In other excercise news - after several months of looking, I finally found a place that has weekday water aerobics. I'm going to start going there when it's too cold for long walks - once a week to start, to see if I like it. Even more delightfully, they're in Harvard Square - nice and close. I think I'll need to get another bathing suit, though, something sturdy. I have one of those in my work bag, but don't want to have my suit wet from class and then need it for a birth. Putting on cold wet bathing suits is gross.

I still have the pictures from my "typical walk" and need to upload them. I'll do it soon, I promise. At least, I promise I'll try.

where in Harvard Sq. has water aerobics?
we just checked out Bally's, but haven't committed yet. they have 2 weekday and 1 weekend class, and of course the pool is open during all gym hours.

for a suit i would recommend a Speedo one piece. mine have been going strong for years.

We were at Fresh Pond yesterday. Did the whole circuit just as the sun was setting. The weather was beautiful--I wish I could go out today.
I'm not sure what you're looking for in cheap but warm exercise pants, but these people (http://www.mec.ca/index.html) are very good on the outdoor-wear, and they are pretty cheap (canadian dollars). and you can call them up and tell them what you want to do, and they'll suggest items. That's how I got my current winter coat.
