Dear Genie,

So, [livejournal.com profile] 7j pointed me at this website.

I would like to use the stuff on the list, but, although it says "beginners," I don't know how to do most of what is on here.

Now, I'm not looking for someone to walk me through this, but are there search terms that I can use to get step-by-step instructions for each of these items?

Thanks!

Honey, with a functional computer (who'd like to keep it that way)

So, some of this stuff is nice and all, and useful: yes, anti-virus programs are good, and yes, firewall and adaware-type software programs are good. But a lot of it is just weird. For example:

Reboot often, more or less ( after running a given program, even if it doesn’t tell you to, for example. As a general rule, if your rebooting, say, about once every half-hour, I can hardly think that is excessive, even today, with our 'new and improved.')

Every half-hour? Good god. I think I only reboot my XP machine at work whenever a Windows update has just run.

Um, other than that, being a Unix/Mac person, I'm not very helpful.

yeah, I might reboot that often, but that's because my office computer can't handle the stress I put it through ("you want me to run how many design programs at the same time? forget this."). take the list as a suggestion.
