So, here's the deal.

If I close my laptop without turning it off, it goes into a sleep mode.
Once it does that, I don't know how to get it back on. Moving the mouse or pressing the keys does nothing. [livejournal.com profile] 7j suggested hitting the power button. However, this turns the computer off.

I have a Dell, if it makes a difference. Any thoughts appreciated.

Did you try Control-Alt-Delete? That's weird.

sleep or hibernate? they are very different. I've had major problems with hibernate, with symptoms such as you discribed. I just turned the function off, so that when i close the lid, it doesn't go into either. i've disabled hibernate all-togeather and i can put it into standby manually, which pushing the power-button brings it out of.
