hurricane stuff behind the cut, please?

I know that the hurricane has had a huge impact on everybody's life. But at a certain point, the data gets overwhelming. When it gets overwhelming, it stops being useful.

If you're posting about hurricane stuff (be it benefits, links to info, new news, etc) could you please put it behind the cut? If you are already doing this, then you rock.

I will in my reminders about it. I know it's overwhelming...I'm having a bit of a problem with it, myself. But I also know people often don't read things behind a cut, so the first one was full text.

While I understand your desire not to be overwhelmed by this information, which admittedly can be repetitive, I really think you can gather from the first line of a post, as you would from whatever preceded a cut tag, that this is Katrina information and then choose to not read that entry on your friends page. I really feel (self)censorship should happen on the reader's level not the poster's level. Feel free to take me off of your friends list so you won't have to see any future Katrina posts I might make.

That's a good point about first lines - however, I read my Flist page straight down rather than skimming by title, so it's not as helpful as it would be for some people.

I have this assumption that it's always okay to ask for what you want, and always okay for people to say no. I expected a lot of people to say no to my request but didn't expect the level of hostility with which they would do so.

I'm not taking people off my Friends list because of this issue, but I am creating a new read filter for a while until things die down. I mostly wrote this because I figured that not everyone would consider the impact of contributing to Katrina inundation, which right now is pretty much everywhere.

Thanks. Interesting post. I agree. Emotion pushes us forward to a certain point. Past that point, it slows us down.
